Cost currently passed on to relatives if funeral overruns
It's claimed a plan by the Council to change how it charges funerals which overrun at Grimsby Crematorium, could lead to extra pressure on time-slots there.
At the moment funeral directors are fined if their service overruns, and the cost is often passed onto grieving families.
Now, undertakers are being encouraged to sign up to a good practice guide..with those that don't being required to book double service times, effectively taking up two slots, which could mean fewer time-slots available for funerals.
The issue's now being called in to a special scrutiny panel next week.
