Angry scenes in Grimsby as couple who admitted animal cruelty escape jail

Abuse of cats and dogs took place at the 4 Paws centre in South Killingholme

There were angry scenes outside Grimsby Magistrates Court yesterday evening after a couple escaped jail despite admitting a catalogue of animal cruelty charges.

40 year old Jodie Fairbrother and her husband, 50 year old Paul, ran the 4 Paws Veterinary Centre at South Killingholme.

The abuse of dogs and cats at the centre were found after a seven month long investigation by the RSPCA.

Both were given suspended sentences yesterday Mrs Fairbrother was given 18 weeks, while Mr Fairbrother was handed a 12 week suspended sentence.

Animal lovers who'd gathered outside protested, saying the sentence was too lenient.
